At Prospect Research, we like to practise what we preach

So we are delighted that Jan Woodruff, our Account Director for clients in the Education sector, has made the first step on the Higher Education learning ladder.

Jan has been studying at Anglia Ruskin University, and has just passed their Building on Skills course.  The course focuses on your experience in the work-place, and investigates business skills techniques and methods, as well as the students building a portfolio and personal development plan for future learning.  Jan was able to base her studies on her work at Prospect Research, and has brought valuable knowledge and ideas back into the company as well as developing as a business person and manager.

Our work for Universities and FE Colleges focusses on promoting work-based learning and other employment based partnerships, and so it’s very fitting that one of our team has now experienced one of these courses first hand.

So after suitably embarrassing Jan with a round of applause from the whole company for such a great achievement, we put her in the hot seat and asked her about the course:

Could you give us an overview of the Building on Skills course?

Anglia Ruskin University has developed this short course to turn your vocational training and qualifications into a university-level module. Once you have completed the course you receive 30 academic credits and entry level to their work-based learning degrees.

Why did you do the course?

To enable me to work towards under-pinning my experience with an academic qualification I needed to use Building on Skills as a stepping stone (I haven’t studied for 27 years!).

Why did you choose Anglia Ruskin University?

They have a strong reputation in distance learning and offer the unique Building on Skills programme.

How did you find the experience?

The course was challenging at first, mainly due to working full-time as well as studying. However, as the weeks progressed, I learnt to allocate sufficient time to the course. This was a turning point that enabled me to really enjoy the course. The tutor assigned to the course was very helpful. I would definitely recommend distance learning.

How has it helped?

It has given me a valuable insight into the benefits of accredited learning from a student’s perspective. It has also helped me tackle day to day tasks with a measured approach using the tools provided by the course.
